Pamela Carter and Renata Perlove will team up to present Deer Damage Control - Keeping Deer from Devouring Your Garden. Their discussion will touch on methods of controlling deer damage through the use of barriers, products, and an exciting selection of deer-resistant plant choices. Attendees will leave the presentation with an arsenal of options, making it possible to have a beautiful garden … even in deer country.

Pamela Carter is an Advanced Master Gardener and the owner of the Deer & Gardens. A plant enthusiast for her entire life, Pamela has been gardening intensively on three acres in deer country for 20 years. She has amassed horticultural knowledge of all types of ornamental plants and their growing needs, as well as the principles of attractive garden design and organic gardening. With a college degree in early education, Pamela held various positions in education while she was raising her children. However, after receiving many requests to share her horticultural knowledge, she decided to follow her passion by starting Deer & Gardens, a horticultural company devoted to the renovation, design, installation, and maintenance of gardens, with a specialty in creating deer-resistant landscapes. Now, five years later, Pamela lectures on the topic of deer problems in the landscape.

Pamela is a past president of the Milford Garden Club and the creator and chairperson of the Huron Valley Environmental Council. She is active in many horticultural organizations, including the Milford Garden Club, the Association of Professional Gardeners, the Conifer Society, and the Perennial Plant Association.

Renata Perlove is a Michigan State graduate with a degree in Ornamental Horticulture. Prior to her coursework at MSU, she completed studies under Janet Macunovich at the Michigan School of Gardening. An Advanced Master Gardener, Renata has presented classes on deer-control strategies at the MSU Garden Days and for various Master Gardener groups.

Renata’s knowledge of deer - their habits and food preferences - comes from many years of first-hand experience while combating deer in her own gardens. Her accomplishments in creating deer-resistant gardens led her to team up with Pamela at Deer and Gardens, where they shared and combined their techniques to formulate a multifaceted approach to gardening in high-deer population areas.

Renata, a former employee of Specialty Growers, now offers garden design, consultation and mentoring services as The Garden Gnome.
