What’s New at Specialty Growers? We are excited about our new Native Wetland Garden! Installed in Oct 2011, this garden demonstrates how native plants can be used to convert a problem area into a garden. Following natural drainage patterns, we created a dry streambed which channels water through a wet area and also serves as a walking path through the garden. The plants we used are all natives or native selections and cultivars, and range from bog-tolerant to those preferring well-drained soil. Many of these plants attract pollinators and serve as host plants for butterflies and beneficial insects. With native plant gardening becoming more popular each year, we know this garden will inspire you to try more natives in your own garden.We’re Different Shopping at Specialty Growers is a unique experience. You’ll enjoy our display gardens which include a Perennial Border, Hosta Garden, Daylily Field, Ornamental Grass/Deer Resistant Garden, Woodland Garden, Peony Display Bed, and our new Native Wetland Garden. Our nursery plants are all grown right here, not shipped in from other areas, and because we grow our plants outdoors under natural conditions, they adapt and establish better in the garden. The nursery is laid out in a naturalistic style, utilizing various microclimates to grow the plants that are best suited to those conditions. Stroll through each section of the nursery -- you’re bound to find some unexpected treasures!Expert Advice Our dedicated staff members are experienced gardeners and horticulturists. We often have guest speakers, artists displaying and selling garden wares, and of course, refreshments.
